About Fiberglass Rods for potted olive trees and peat trees

Lots of farmers have spent a large part of their professional careers related to modern olive grove plantations, and they always used potted olive trees, peat trees. They have a nursery that produces both formats (peat and lime), and it is interesting to comment on the differences between the two, which will affect the choice of one or the other according to soil-irrigation/rainfed and planting season.

PEAT Features:

·        Plant with 0.4-0.5L of peat moss (usually peat, coco fibre and perlite) and an aerial height of 40-55cm

·        It is reared inside nurseries, under more controlled temperature conditions, so it can be in a more herbaceous state

Positives:

1. Being sheltered from the nursery, it can arrive in a more active state of the buds, which is good if the weather outside is mild but not so good if it is too cold or hot

2.As it is smaller, there is less shading and the consignments tend to arrive more homogeneously at the farmer

3. Its handling in planting work is easier, and it can be a few cents cheaper to plant

To note:

4. Be careful not to make plantations in the absence of moisture in the soil, peat dehydrates quickly with heat and environmental dryness

5. Due to its lower aerial height, the placement of the peat substrate in the soil cannot be deepened, being more exposed to its dryness.

LIMA Features:

·        Plant with 0.5-1L of lime substrate, and aerial height of 60-70cm

·        It is grown outdoors, in the open, without the protection of plastics and therefore more hardened

Positives:

1. Its greater root volume allows it to go deeper into planting tasks, reaching more humid areas, IDEAL FOR RAINFED PLANTATIONS

2. The height of 60-70cm allows for easy tying to the stake and any protector height is less than the size of the plant

3. Its larger dimensions and the age at which it reaches the final ground mean that it enters production earlier than peat plants

To note:

1. Its large size in the nursery creates shades from one to the other, causing sometimes more heterogeneous splits

2. During planting, its larger size slows down the work of the operators, increasing the cost of this operation

3. Hardened plant (dormant buds) at the end of winter -February, March-
